ANNOUNCEMENTS
ELECTRICITY RATE UP FOR MAY 2024
With the significant increase in the cost of electricity generation and the market price, CENECO announces that, the residential rate for the month of 𝗠𝗮𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟰 is 𝗣𝟭𝟱.𝟭𝟲𝟯𝟮/𝗸𝗪𝗵, an upward adjustment of P3.2066/kWh compared to the previous month’s rate of P11.9566/kWh.
We understand that any increase in electricity rates can be concerning for our consumers. However, the rates computation are influenced by various factors. For the billing month of May, the main contributory factor to the rate hike is the increase in Generation Charge by 31.96% resulting from the increase in Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM) price from P8.0879/kWh to P12.6706/kWh.
CENECO informs its consumers that only 8% of the total rate for the month goes to CENECO through Distribution, Supply and Metering (DSM) charges for its administrative and operational services, and Reinvestment Fund for Sustainable CAPEX (RFSC), and since 2010, CENECO’s DSM and RFSC rate has not changed. While, 92% of the total rate is composed of the pass-through charges such as Generation and Transmission charges, ERC-approved adjustments, government subsidies and taxes.
In light of the rate hike experienced by the majority of distribution utilities in Western Visayas, CENECO encourages its consumers to conserve energy to avoid paying high electricity bills.
Further, CENECO advises its consumers that, in monitoring the monthly electricity usage, consumers should look at their kilowatt-hour consumption and not the bill amount since it varies depending on the pass-through charges.
